Melisa Atkeson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who works with adolescents, young adults, children, parents, and families. In addition to her psychotherapy practice, Melisa has worked as a high school math teacher, and as an educator and manager in the technology sector. Melisa has experience working with youth in private practice, residential settings, and therapeutic foster and adoptive care. She provides individual, group, and family therapy, and has a particular interest in clients who have difficulty regulating their emotions.
Melisa has extensive training and experience in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and also uses a number of other client-centered treatment approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Relational Therapy, and Child-Centered Play Therapy. She enjoys helping kids, teens, and young adults with anxiety and depression, and works with them to change unhelpful thoughts and behaviors and to form effective relationships. She also likes working with parents and families to create improved patterns of communicating and interacting. Melisa leads several DBT skills groups with colleagues at Weaver and Associates.
