The Brain Class: Calming and Focusing the Mind

This 6-week course for children is based on the MindUP curriculum, an evidence-based educational initiative rooted in current research on cognitive neuroscience.  In an active small group setting, participants will learn how their brain functions and develop techniques to calm themselves and stay focused in stressful situations. The group members practice strategies to foster well-being and emotional balance. Members can then apply the skills to real-life situations at home, in school, and in social settings.

Goals of the class:

  • Understand the brain and how it responds in stressful situations
  • Calming the mind through meditative and “mindfulness” techniques
  • Build self-awareness
  • Reduce stress and anxiety
  • Increase emotional and behavioral self-regulation
  • Improve problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Enhance concentration and listening skills
